Why Reverse DNS is Important

May 28th, 2009 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in Reverse DNS

Reverse DNS is a process of resolving an IP address into a domain name, it’s just as DNS resolves domain names into associated IP addresses. Reverse DNS ensure you that you will not encounter any problems with most of the Enterprise Management Systems, IRC,  r-commands,  network backup system or your SMTP server.  In addition, one of the applications is being used for reverse DNS that work as a spam filter which determine whether the IP address of the incoming message matches an authenticated domain name or not and if in case it doesn’t match,  the spam filter  block the message.  Normally, when a spammer try to use an invalid IP address, and when that IP doesn’t match the domain name, a reverse DNS lookup program inputs IP addresses of incoming messages to a DNS database. If no valid name is found to match the IP address, the server blocks that message.

New Firefox Add-on from MyIpTest

Some Subordinate DNS Admin usually configures “forward DNS” and fail to remember to configure reverse DNS so they should make sure  to configure reverse DNS which hardly take a few minutes of time. Troubleshooting problems caused by faulty or non-existent reverse DNS can take substantial time and effort but it would be much better if you make sure that reverse DNS is configured correctly from the very beginning.

Google labs launched “Google News Timeline”, this will organize all your search criteria for Google News and other information in exact sequence presenting results from different source just by adding a time period in your query. You can get the information through navigation by just adjusting the timeline by time scale, weeks, months, years, or decades.

Google News Timeline can present results from many different sources, including both current and news from archive, blog posts, magazine, scanned newspapers and different relevant source like from sports, music and movies. You can view multiple sources concurrently, allowing each source-providing context to the others.

I just selected “TV Shows” from dropdown menu and entered “1982″ in Date box and clicked on “Add Query”. It displayed below screen.

IP Address Lookup

Firefox 3.5 now can tell the websites where you’re located and it will let you find the information which are more relevant and more valuable to you. It’s the way about making the Web smarter – and is done in a way that it completely respects your privacy. When you visit a location-aware website, Firefox will ask you if you want to share your location and with your consent, Firefox will accumulate information about nearby wireless access points and your computer’s IP address. Then Firefox sends this information to the default geolocation service provider- Google Location Services, to get an estimate of your location. That location estimate is then shared with the requested website. If you show no permission, Firefox will not do anything.

I hope it will benefit from a far greater accuracy and thus it will provide a better service to the users and will let the Location-Aware Browsing to become Mainstream.

The geographically localized information becoming integral part of our lifestyle which offers the ability to the users to gather round information related to specific geographic location. The local positioning enables you to minimize the search times and enhances the visibility of local establishments. In the same way, you can incorporate with user communities and chat-rooms targeting specific locations and you can easily get the information about the local times, weather conditions and news events of the exact location.

Geolocation by IP address is the system of determining user’s geographic latitude by implication through longitude, city, region and nation. It also enable you to compare the user’s public Internet IP address with known locations of other electronically neighboring servers and routers. The benefits of IP geolocation may sound complex, but a simple example may help you to understand the possibilities. Consider a traveling businessman currently on the road to New York, After checking into his hotel he start using his laptop through the wifi, he opens his chat program as well as a Web browser. His friends and family can see from his chat profile that he is currently near 3333 California Stunstarred, San Francisco, CA. Accordingly they can determine his local time and weather condition. By using his Web browser, the businessman can do a localized search to find nearby restaurants, pub and theaters.
